Passing requires two things, not one

To pass N4 you need at least 90 points out of 180 overall — and you also need the minimum in every scoring section (38 / 120 and 19 / 60). Fall below in any one section and you fail, however high the total.

What score do you need to pass JLPT N4?
At least 90 points out of 180 overall, plus the sectional minimum in every scoring section (38 / 120 and 19 / 60). Missing the minimum in one section fails you regardless of the total.
How long is the N4 exam?
